My name is Jahnavi Aggarwal. I am a merchandiser at Shree Bharat International Private Limited, a company started by my father in 1986. We manufacture and export knitted garments overseas, to companies based in Europe and the USA. My job as a merchandiser entails being the voice of communication between our clients abroad, and the people who actually construct the garments. I work closely with a lot of women who earn their living being embroiderers, crocheters, tailors and menders. These women support their families, support their husbands, work six days a week, commuting from near and far. In this male dominated society they had the vision to acquire a skill and convert it into livelihood.
This year, I’m running the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon to support the Concern India Foundation, specifically for their efforts towards Women Empowerment. I have always been inclined towards sports and the outdoors; I played basketball in high school and participated in our annual cross country events. I’m passionate about trekking, and make a yearly trip to the Himalayas. Recently I also tried my hand at mountaineering and came away with a new passion.
I ran the ADHM last year for the women’s empowerment, and am doing the same this year. It is a cause close to my heart. As a woman, I feel that we should stand in support of one another.
I request you to contribute generously, your donation will help empower several women to attain dignity and selfreliance and break out of a life of hunger, poverty and hopelessness.
Concern India Foundation works towards helping people help themselves by making the disadvantaged self-reliant and enabling them to lead a life of dignity since 1991.
