Childline strives to ensure the rights of children, provide last mile connectivity, foster a child friendly ecosystem and integrate the efforts between children, civil society and the state to make child protection everybody’s mandate.
Work and Achievements
Childline India Foundation anchors Childline1098 - a national, emergency, free phone outreach service for children in distress that links them to long term services for care, protection and rehabilitation.
Every day children in difficult circumstances call Childline - children living on the streets, runaway children, missing children, victims of child labour and abuse, differently-abled children, children in institutions or displaced by disaster, mentally or physically challenged children, children requiring critical medical care, sponsorship etc. Concerned adults also do call and report cases where Childline’s intervention is desirable.
Childline is present in 415 cities/districts across the country and has responded to over 38 million calls since its inception. During its first year of operations Childline received about 6000 calls in the entire year. Today the service logs about 30,000 calls daily.. The Childline mandate is to visit the child within an hour of the call and to ensure that the child is safe and secure and that the issues faced by the child are addressed.
In the year 2015-16 the type of support provided by Childline include, medical assistance for 13602 children, shelter for 20009 children, protection from abuse to 56582 children, sponsorship for 865 children, restoration of 13028 children to their families, ensuring a humane atmosphere for 16660 children in conflict with the law, attending to 25054 cases of missing children, emotional support and guidance for 17828 children and providing the necessary information to 111195 children as well as adults.
Childline is in the process of expanding to 200 cities more to ensure countrywide access for children in need of care and protection.
Fund Utilisation Statement
The funds received will be utilized for responding to calls, interventions, rescue and rehab operations, restoration,sponsorship, critical medical care, awareness and advocacy.
