Thalassemia Control & Prevention program:
Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder in which a patient cannot make enough Red Blood Cells and needs to be supplemented with Blood transfusions every 2-3 weeks to stay healthy and survive.
We provide free blood transfusion to 75 patients every month in our Day Care Centre. At the rate of 2 blood units per month (Or even every 15 days) the total cost for transfusions is Rs. 30,000 to Rs 60,000 per year per patient and Rs.22.5 to above 45 lakh for all 75 patients.
In addition to the blood transfusions, all the patients require Chelation, a treatment to remove excess iron, Hematology Consultation, Laboratory Investigations and so on, the costing for which is Rs. 65,000 to 70,000 per year per patient
The Thalassemia Prevention Program encompasses awareness, pre and post test counselling for Thalassemia patients, carriers and their relatives. The total cost for which will be Rs. 35 Lakh.
