Work and Achievements

 

Rotary Bangalore -TTK Blood Bank, Bangalore Medical Services Trust (BMST) is a not for profit organization with 32 years of experience in Blood Banking & Transfusion

  • We collect 40,000 units of blood and issue around 110,000 components per annum
  • Voluntary blood donors only

  • Thalassemia Prevention & Care
  • Stem Cell Registry

Thalassemia Control & Prevention program:

Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder in which a patient cannot make enough Red Blood Cells and needs to be supplemented with Blood transfusions every 2-3 weeks to stay healthy and survive. 

We provide free blood transfusion to 95 patients every month in our Day Care Centre. At the rate of 2 blood units per month, the total cost for transfusions is Rs. 30,000 per year per patient and Rs.28 lakh for all 95 patients.

In addition to the blood transfusions, all the patients require Chelation, a treatment to remove excess iron, Hematology Consultation, Laboratory Investigations and so on, the costing for which is Rs. 65,000 – 70,000 per year per patient

The Thalassemia Prevention Program in the next financial year will reach out to the families of 100 to 150 patients, the total cost for which will be Rs. 35 Lakh.

The aim is twofold: To improve management of Thalassemia patients, to reduce the incidence of Thalassemia by screening and genetic counseling
