To enrich the quality of life and bring dignity to differently abled adults by training them in life skills and vocational skills, building support systems and enhancing awareness in the Community.
Work and Achievements
'The crisp folds of a paper bag, the patience in sticking layers of paper on a mould and the bright splashes of colour on an earthen diya speak volumes about the talent of the differently-abled. They prove that the differently-abled can not only follow instructions but even work with precision and earn a livelihood. We, at Diya Foundation, believe in the same.
Established in 1999, Diya Foundation is a vocational training centre that aims at improving the lives of differently-abled people by providing them with :-
- Income-generating skills – Training and employment opportunities in candle making, chocolate making, greeting card designing, paper mache, recycled product unit and data entry units.
- Social skills – Understanding themselves, maintaining relations and solving problems among other abilities.
- Life skills – Grooming, hygiene, fitness and other activities that help them lead their daily lives with ease.
At Diya, each person’s disability is metamorphosed into opportunities for self-growth and independence. Each activity is a training programme in itself, be it practising yoga, welcoming visitors or sharing lunches.
Currently, there are 60 differently-abled adults either under training or sheltered employment in Diya, who are earning a monthly income of Rs 1,000/- - Rs. 2,500/- per month. With time, Diya Foundation hopes to increase this number and help differently-abled individuals and their families live in dignity.
Diya is celebrating 15 years of being in service of providing vocational training and sheltered employment to differently-abled adults in Bangalore.
