Work and Achievements
Founded in 1998, ROSHNI, a project of the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Gwalior, integrated in an ideal community,with 2 mainstream schools CBSE/MP State Board, the Sarada,Balgram, a home for destitute children and youth, Sarada Naad Mandir, an Indian Classical Music School, provides Life-span services for children and adults with neurological impairments and multiple disabilities- Cerebral Palsy, Intellectual Challenges and Autism.
Focusing on Early Identification and Intervention, Partnership With Parents and Empowerment of Parent support groups, Primary and Functional Literacy programmes, Out- patient and Therapy Services, ROSHNI-Eco -Adult-Skill Development-Vocational Training and Sheltered Workshop, Training for Daily Living Skills, Leisure time/Recreation and Sports Events, Advocacy and Leadership and Entrepreneurship training for youth with disabilities, through exposure visits to other cities, participating in marathons, festivals and awareness programmes for access, environmental issues, gender equality and health and Cleanliness other issues in society for all.
ROSHNI provides computer training for all students and especially for those in the academic
stream. The use of technology at ROSHNI for education-calculators ,tablets and communication devices for Autism intervention – through voice-out put devices and apps like the Avaz app.beneficial for all disabilities .
Teacher Training and mainstream learning support services for children with special needs and specific learning difficulties, stretches the ROSHNI team to meet the lack of specialists in this region. Capacity building of staff and parent volunteers through frequent training and supervision has resulted in the employment of 4 parent volunteers. In addition, ROSHNI has recruited 4 persons with disability to fill various positions in the team.
Active fundraising enabled ROSHNI to design and construct a building with a Univeral design & access for all, as a model building for students of architecture to visit and study. The Sponsorship Programme enables children with disabilities from low income groups to receive education and therapy costs, another means of support in raising funds through the Airtel Delhi half Marathon and Tata Mumbai Marathon.
ROSHNI an Information Centre of the National Trust is a nodal centre, mentoring, training, COs, professionals, families of children/ adults with disabilities, Community workers, regarding NT & government schemes, concessions, benefits in a disadvantaged region.
