To bring a holistic and sustainable change in the lives of the vulnerable sections of society through innovative solutions and implementing evidence based interventions.
Work and Achievements
SHODH is an India based charity with its footprint in 8 Indian states and having served over 15000 beneficiaries since inception in 2005. The focus has been on implementing sustainable, research based solutions that have a lasting impact and is closely aligned with some of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Zero Hunger, Good Health and well-being, Education Awareness and Sensitisation and Water Conservation and Promotion of Sanitation.
SHODH works on promotion of ‘Climate Smart Crops and Agriculture’ in the Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh, the second most drought prone region in the country. The project seeks to encourage farmers to move to growing millets, which are climate and nutrition smart crops. This has been done through setting up a farmers’ resource centre where farmers can learn about millets, see demonstrations and understand the market. Millets take very less water to grow, thrive in poor, saline soils and ensure a safe and reliable harvest for farmers despite of poor rainfall.
Nutrition and access to healthy food are the rights of all sections of society, however, the needs of the urban poor are complex & multifaceted and their nutrition status abysmal. SHODH’s nutrition project, “Ghar Ghar Poshan,” is working with households from urban slums & those having young children to improve quality of local diets through low cost, high nutrition solutions.
Fund Utilisation Statement
The funds raised through ADHM 2019 will be utilized for our “Climate Smart Agriculture’ project in the rural areas of Anantapur, AP, and for “Ghar-Ghar Poshan” a Nutrition for all project in the urban slums of Delhi
