The Coorg Foundation
Swastha Centre caters to the Educational and Vocational needs of the differently abled in the district of Kodagu. The Centre basically caters to the weaker section of society.
Work and Achievements
The Coorg Foundation, a Public Charitable Trust, was established in the year 1994 with the vision of late Darbari Seth, Chairman of the then Consolidated Coffee Ltd (Now Tata Coffee Ltd). The objective of the Foundation at the time of inception was to promote and secure the welfare of the people of Kodagu and to help resolve the economic, ecological, environmental and social problems of the Kodagu District.
In 2003, Coorg Foundation had set up a project namely,`SWASTHA’ for rehabilitating differently abled children. Care and training for 120 special children (both Boarders and Day Scholars) is proivided free of cost through its centers at Suntikoppa and Pollibetta. The facilities include hostel, food and conveyance.
The center has dedicated, trained and experienced special educators, speech therapist and psychologists. Swastha children are trained in pre vocational and vocational skills. Several children have been placed for employment or are self-employed. The goal is to make the differently abled not just self-sufficient but to grow them as people with self-esteem and a sense of purpose.
The Swastha project also reaches out to the specially abled persons in Kodagu District. A team of dedicated resource persons, are working tirelessly through Community Based Rehabilitation Programme (C.B.R).
