United Way of Mumbai
United Way Mumbai improves lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities to advance the common good.
Work and Achievements
At United Way Mumbai, we strive to address social challenges that are too large or complex for any one organization to solve alone. Our role is that of a catalyst that drives social change and the glue that binds together the many stakeholders needed to create it.
Over the past 17 years, we have partnered with over 300 companies and over 1,00,000 individual donors investing close to INR 390 crore for community development projects. Our expertise lies in identifying, designing & implementing high impact projects in the areas of Education, Health, Income, Environment, Public Safety & Social Inclusion in both urban as well as rural communities across the country.
Through ADHM 2019 we request support for 3 key projects:
Project Poshan: Nearly 50% of all deaths in children under the age of 5 are due to malnutrition. Project Poshan fights against malnutrition amongst children in impoverished communities.
Let's READ: Children who read are likely to have better cognitive development, higher academic achievement, improved language skills and socialization. For many children, however, access to good quality books is a distant dream. Through this project, we set up mini libraries, gift book sets, conduct book reading workshops and train NGO staff.
United for Road Safety: This project aims to promote road safety with a special focus on education, empowerment, engineering and emergency response care. Our interventions include 2 wheels 1 life to promote safe two wheeler riding among youth and Jeevan Doot which aims to create a force of trained. In addition, we also work with school children to make them safe road users. Children are taught road safety measures ( with a special focus on walking and cycling) and rules that they should abide by as a citizen.
