“Be the change you wish to see in the world” is a phrase I’ve heard very often, from family,
teachers and friends. It is a constant reminder that you can’t simply expect the world to change. While, I have always done charity and tried to help out in school and my community whenever I can. I can’t pride myself over starting an initiative or truly doing something because I believe in it. The Airtel Delhi Half Marathon gives me the chance to truly make a difference, from raising funds for Habitat For Humanity and raising awareness for the millions of people in our country that do not live in adequate housing.
I will be using this opportunity to help Ms. Anita Yeshwant, age 44 from Gokak, Belgavi district, Karnataka. Anita, a vegetable vendor who earns less than 300 rupees for a hard day’s work, was away at her mother's when the water entered her house and destoryed everything she owned. She wasn't able to save anything.
Habitat India's Disaster Response teams are working across India in flood affected areas and the money raised by this campaign will go to supporting them in rebuilding the lives of millions.
