Goonj addresses neglected needs and issues of rural masses, like Water, Education, and Livelihood by involving the urban and rural masses and re positioning urban surplus material beyond charity as a powerful resource for bringing development with dignity.
Work and Achievements
Goonj is a multi award winning organisation, using the cities surplus to fuel widespread development work across village India. While dealing with more than 40 Lac KG of material annually, Goonj reaches this material as a resource, as a parallel currency with dignity to rural communities and mobilises and motivates them to take up large scale development work like recharging water bodies, rebuilding local infrastructure, education, for addressing their own issues. Goonj’s work has also led to systematic impact in the disaster relief & rehabilitation work; while it has also opened up the most taboo issue of menstrual hygiene, highlighting it as a human issue and providing cotton cloth pads as a viable solution.
