What does the word `home’ mean to you? Often, engrossed in our busy lives, we forget the intrinsic value of common words we throw around. Home is one such word. What we fail to take into account is the thousands who aren’t privileged to use this word. The thousands who aren’t privileged to have a home. The thousands who have nowhere to go.
You were housed and cared for since the very instant you were born. Your parents, and family made a home for you. A home around you. Aren’t we taught that having a home is one of our fundamental human rights? Who will make a home for them? Who will help them realize their rights?
Habitat for Humanity does exactly that. By its very name, it endorses thousands of homeless people with new abodes of safety and security. Having supported 319,375 families in the year 2017 alone, they envision to assimilate at least 60 million people in their grand scheme for humanity by the year 2022. But that is not all. They also have a hand at spreading awareness about hygiene and sanitation, concurrent to their project of building toilets for people.
So ask yourself: How would it feel to lose the ability to reassure yourself with the feeling of retrieving back to your home? How truly valuable is that feeling? Immeasurably.
It is in your power to give countless others the privilege to have a home too. Large or little, your contribution counts. Help build a home today by donating, volunteering, or spreading awareness about the need for housing with Habitat for Humanity.
