Despite India being one of the fastest growing economies of the world, homelessness is a crucial issue.1.3 billion people call India their home, yet 78 million of them have no place to return to following nightfall. While most of us return to the comforts of our home awaiting to be greeted by our loved ones, the other 6% of our population acknowledges the streets and alleys of our nation as their dwellings. This is the harsh reality.
Statistics showcasing our growing economy are of no significance if 6 out of every 100 citizens in our nation do not have acess to the most essential commodities. However, we can slowly work towards a better tomorrow.Habitat for Humanity aims to solve this issue by providing people not only shelter but also access to closed toilets and improved sanitation. This organization has made tremendous progress in turning our dreams of a better tomorrow into a reality. They have touched the lives of 9,40,430 individuals in 2017 alone.
This is not the end of it. Habitat's goal for 2022 is to aim to touch the lives of 60 million more.Let us all work together for the betterment of our society. After all, the access to proper sanitation and secure shelter is not something one should be deprived of as it is essentially a human right .
