Parikrma Humanity Foundation
Providing free and equal opportunity education, nutrition and healthcare to 2000 children from Bangalore's slums
Work and Achievements
Parikrma Humanity Foundation is a non-profit organisation with a simple mission – to ensure that even the poorest child from the slums can access the best possible opportunities in the world. Parikrma was founded in 2003 as a response to the growing inequalities and disparity in India’s Silicon Valley – Bangalore. In the city, where close to a million people work in multinational IT companies, only 8-10% of this work force comes from economically and socially marginalised people in the city. Perhaps the under-representation of the poor is because of their supposed inability to speak good English, graduate from college or their family’s reluctance to educate them. We know that these are myths. At Parikrma, we have proven these notions to be wrong. Based on the premise that good education is not isolated to learning curriculum, Parikrma has transformed the process of learning for poor children in India.
Parikrma’s 360-degree development model covers all aspects of a child’s life. This includes:
- Implementing CBSE English language education
- Integrating a facilitative and interdisciplinary extra-curricular and academic curriculum
- Providing complete nutrition (3 wholesome meals a day)
- Comprehensive healthcare (including preventive and treatment care)
- Family care to enable a supportive and stable home environment.
Education at Parikrma is far more then academic. We go to great lengths to inculcate an interest in the world beyond the classroom through art, sports, theatre and Universe 2 U, a science beyond the classroom programme. Our children have excelled at sports, won accolades for their expression through art, participated in the Duke Talent Identification programme and travelled to San Diego, USA for the Global Youth Leadership Summit.
